Description
This unit helps students understand the dangers of different substances to their physical and mental health, and how they also impact family and community health. Students will learn how to differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate use of prescription and over-the-counter drugs, refusal skills, the role that substances play in unsafe situations, and describe risk factors, protective factors, consequences of misuse, and how to seek help. A theory-based fentanyl substance misuse awareness lesson geared toward middle and high school students is included to support legislation in several states that mandates student education on the dangers of fentanyl use.
